OLD-COUNTRY STYLE The
"European" is handmade by a small weaving
cooperative in Europe, produced from sustainably grown willow. The European's "Natural" willow is a warm honey color, inlaid with a chestnut brown band.
Willow is one of the most renewable basketry fibers, harvested annually from farm hedgerows. It can grow on the same plant for up to fifty years, and dense willow groves provide valuable habitat for nesting birds and other creatures.
The "European" design comes in two distinct styles - Oval (curved ends) and Traditional (coffin shaped). Woven coffins are typically tight-fitting, and the coffin shape tends to be narrow in the hips, following the natural contours of the human body.
Six handles and multiple flower rings are woven into the sides (flowers not included!) Woven coffins are great for adding flowers.
The fitted lid is separate, and secured with two willow closing poles that pass through loops. Each coffin includes a simple heavyweight cotton-calico hemmed-sheet liner to wrap the body before burial.
