THE TRADITIONAL SKILLS OF INDONESIA combine with the expertise of the Somerset Willow Company's talented coffin designers to create a striking line of coffins under the brand "Natural Woven Products" based in the U.K.
These sturdy furniture-grade coffins are made from fast-growing cane. Cane is a rainforest by-product that regrows readily, providing an income for communities that encourages their foresters to maintain the trees rather than cut them down.
The "Garden" design comes in two distinct styles - Oval (curved ends) and Traditional (coffin shaped). Woven coffins are typically close-fitting, and the coffin shape tends to be narrow in the hips, following the natural contours of the human body. The curved-end coffin is wider, and both styles taper toward the feet.
Six rope handles are woven into the sides (flowers not included!) All woven coffins are great for adding flowers. The fitted lid is separate, and secured with two cane closing poles that pass through braided loops. Each coffin includes a simple gusseted liner of unbleached cotton fitted up around the side with elastic.
